Hopefully everyone has begun to give some thought to the kind of character they'd like to play in the next campaign. In addition to the usual race and class, please pay some attention to your character's background and motivations, as these feed into the Traits/Ideals/Bond/Flaw.
Here are some things to keep in mind as you create your character:
1. The campaign will take place within a large city. This probably puts the more outdoors-y classes and options (like Ranger or Druid) at a slight disadvantage, but by no means disqualifies them. If you'd like to play them, perhaps the "fish-out-of-water" aspect can be part of your personality. Note that all your characters will be new to the city, so your background will need to accommodate that.
2. You may play any of the classes from the Player's Handbook. I'd rather not create any custom classes just yet. The system is too new, and there seem to be a lot to pick from anyway.
3. You may choose to play any of the races in the Player's Handbook, including the rare ones. But, if you choose "Drow", I'll need a really good explanation as to how you've survived to adulthood without being killed, and how you plan on co-existing with surface dwellers.
For each race besides drow, I have a small blurb on where you might have been from and some general notes on how the race fits into this campaign setting. Please give these a read, at least for the races you are interested in.
Finally, one of the background options available to you is this:
"Your character was the sole survivor of a shipwreck off the coast of Ptolus several years ago. The wreck gave you amnesia and you don't recall your past." There will be more filled in as we go, of course, and some other items I don't want to share here. If this ambiguous background interests you, let me know.
